A podcast about Macs done by a Mac geek for Mac geeks. Show 69. Is Microsoft going after Adobe? Podcasting comes to iTunes early and not from Apple, new PowerPC Freescale chips may mean faster PowerBooks, Apple sued over iTunes interface, Sony BMG and EMI make a statement by locking out iPods, Apple drops Virex from .Mac, some interesting statistics. When is an iPod not an iPod? Answer, when it’s an Ipod MP4. Inventor of the integrated circuit, Jack S. Kilby, dead at 81. My 2 Cents with Curt, a response to Windows file sharing password issues, iMac G5 fan noise, publishing iCals to your .Mac account, aging Mac users groups, OS 9 iMic extension conflicts, syncing iPod ratings back to iTunes, some feedback on the Dittybot iTunes phone hack and help for a Garagband that won’t stay open. New Music, Shine by Kevin Reeves.

Shhhh. Smell something?

Correction: In the audio I incorrectly refer to Jack Kilby as Jack Kirby. I had it right in the show notes, not sure why I said it wrong. Sorry.

Great show, as always. FWIW though, I’m pretty sure that the ability to rate songs on the iPod has always been there (or at least it has for a long time)…it’s not unique to new models.

Also, the Microsoft Acrylic beta is Windows only.

Jack Kirby… The comic book artists I hated as a child but have much respect and appreciation for as an adult…

As for Acrylic, as a pre-press professional I can see it having the same importance as Microsoft Publisher. In the professional world of print houses and design, it’s all Macs. Publisher costs customers and clients more money to use due to increased pre-press time and improper use of color seperation. I excpect the same from Acrylic.

The ability to rate songs is there on my 3rd gen iPod but I can’t remember if it was there before a couple of firmware upgrades I’ve done to it over the last couple of years. I only discovered that I could do this recently, along with the ability to use the scroll wheel to whizz backward/forward in a podcast/song – also via pressing the centre button – which is much quicker than using the rewind/forward buttons.

I see the MacCast is just two votes away from #1 on podcastalley! I can’t remember the MacCast ever being #1 before since I started listening a few months ago. Just two more votes folks! Here’s the page to vote for the maccast:

In answer to Kevin, I would also like to see am more “GenX” community gathering. Maybe we could work with the guys with “weird hair” at the Apple store to get something started. If you want, shoot me an email through my blog at http://www.thicke.org.
