A much better (and far more exciting) alternative to dual-boot Intel Macs would be a Windows equivalent of Classic whereby a copy of Windows runs transparently in the background while you're running OS X and you can launch Windows apps from OS X so that they run in their own windows within OS X, just like you could launch OS 9 apps with Classic.

I've just installed iLife 2006 and interested in playing around with the new features that appear to make publishing to the web, my multimedia (via blog, photocast, etc..) seemless through iWeb. I have experience in HTML, ASP, so I'm curious how this will work out.

I'll post any comments in the forum!

Go Apple (all for $79...can't be beat)

Hi Adam,

Remember me? The guy from Brazil.
We'll today flying from London to Spain I was listening to MacCast 12.1.2006 and I heard about the strange features AppleKey + .

W'ell, right now I'm doing a report on the new Pages (iWorks 06) and it has the same feature. But I also discovered that it also happens when you use the ESC key in the middle of a word.
It presents a listo of the recognized words by the dictionaries.

What for? I don't really now. But is quite usefull for me when trying to find some words I'm not sure if they exist and how to spell them.

Sincerely,

Manoel Lemos

I believe you'll find WB problems with all the high end Nikon cameras but Nikon protects it's market share for Nikon Capture by no releasing the WB information. If you look even Lightroom doesn't support some of the WB information for the Nikon cameras. This is a big reason why I'll never support Nikon.

If you want a good lightroom review go to luminous landscape and compare his review to the Aperture review. THey'll you'll find this experienced photography seriously thinkgs Aperture is lacking in many respects and that lightroom delivers.

Just a quick note about MacBook Pro battery life. If the battery life of the new MacBook Pro had been able to meet the battery life of existing Powerbooks, the obvious marketing spin would have been: "Four times the speed, with NO decrease in battery life!" The marketing spin for BETTER battery life is obvious. It seems to me that there are two reasons not to mention battery life at the roll-out: 1) the battery life is worse than the existing Powerbooks; 2) they don't really know yet. I think there's some possibility that the latter is the case, in that my local Apple Store indicated that the new MacBook Pro won't start receiving any shipments until the end of February. I think that Apple was pushing the edge of the envelope in announcing the MacBook Pro at Macworld Expo, but we'll see...

The command-dot word completion in Mail is just a shortcut to the built-in feature in cocoa text boxes where you press option-esc to get completions of the current word you are typing. This is nice since pressing option-esc is awkward. Also, this is even easier to invoke in Mail, since if you remember your keyboard shortcuts, command-period is the same as escape. Indeed, you can just press escape in Mail to get the word completion. In regular cocoa text boxes, you will have to use option-esc however.

Actually, the Intel 8088 was in the original IBM PC. The 8086 was around, but the 8088 was used for lower cost since it had an 8-bit expansion bus. The 8086 was used later in some clones, but not in the IBM PC. The 80286 was used in the PC/AT:

Love the show Adam...keep it up. I've noticed in the 10.4.4 update that double clicking on a column's margin in an open Finder window while in column view, the column will resize to fit the longest entry. This is a nice fix...I believe up until now this only happened within applications.

The Intel ad song that plays in the background is Moby's "God moving over the face of the waters" for those who heard the ad and liked the song.

The song is also on the movie Heat's OST.

Great podcasts, keep em' coming. :)

i certainly wont be getting a macbook. i hate only having one firewire port on my powerbook now as it is. having to take out my external harddrive in order to import clips from my video camera is just lame. i do like the iMacs though.

so is it worth getting ilife 06 if i only have 56k.

Adam,
A great podcast--and yes, the longest running--but extremely rich in detailing Job's MacWorld keynote remarks.

This is why I believe you have the best 'cast about Apple/Mac.

Listening to you is like having my very own top-flight Mac tutor.
Your very conversational 'patter' fully informs both your technical and not-so-technical audience.

Well done.

well even if you have a firewire 800 port on the macbook pro doesnt it still run off the same firewire buss as the 400, so for video editors most buy a seperate card for a new bus in wich to work on,

The macbook pro is only the begining, more exciting things are to come, and for those who are all underwhemled, get real, Apple said it would have them by june and it did it 6 months earlyer that IN ITSELF is amazing,

will Apple banish fire wire to the farthest reaches of the unkown? they probably did it for the iSight because the one in the iMac is USB internal and a small verson of a PCI card, maybe its the same one in the Mac Book Pro.

Hi Adam, you say "Same models 17″ and 20″, same prices" but here in the UK the prices have went up, where as the price in the US store have said the same. Same for the MacBook Pro, its cheaper in the US than it is here in the UK. Guess Apple don't want to either sell to the UK market as much as the US, or something else!
