Google Mac Blog

GoogleMacGoogle wants to know that they love you. Well… that’s not quite true, they want you to know that they love your Mac. Google has started an Official Google Mac Blog to reach out to Mac zealots users like us. The first post to this blog tells Mac Users:

If you sit down at your Mac, start up your browser, and search for “Google mission statement”, this is what you’ll see:

“Google’s mission is to organize the world’s information and make it universally accessible and useful.”

We’re pretty serious about that mission, including the “universally accessible” part. It means making products that everyone can use – including Mac users. We want to provide great products and services to the tens of millions of Mac users around the world, because it’s the right thing to do, and because Mac users inside and outside Google demand it. That’s why we’ve recruited some of the best, most passionate Mac people out there for a Mac Engineering team.

Google is also provding a page to download all of the fruit of their labors so far at Google Software Downloads for the Mac.

Note from editor: If you have not seen it yet and are at all into 3D modeling and stuff, be sure to checkout the FREE Google SketchUp application.

I use Google Sketchup on my Mac, and sometimes the PC version when I have time to kill at somebody else’s house. It’s easy to figure out, and has great video tutorials that show you the best way to use the tools. The free version won’t export files in any format that other CAD programs can use, but whatever, I don’t have any other cad type program anyway.
    Highly recommended.

Looks like I’ll have to buy some Google shares (pricey tho’) to add to my beloved Apple stock in my investment portfolio.

What good is a blog that doesn’t allow comments?

I thought Google starting a blog oriented at Mac users was good. Then I saw they have comments turned off. Absolutely retarded move on their part.

If they want “conversations” with Mac users they should get with the program and turn on the comments.

Yes, I saw they want you to go use google groups: the worst listserve ever! I had to abandon an email because of the spam from Google groups.

For crying out loud, even Microsoft allows comments on their Mac Office blog. :/

Google sketchup sure has become very popular. I understand there are some things missing but one noted CAD new type person said it is the best of all the CAD programs. Seems a little lightweight to me to do production work but definately work keeping an eye on.
