From the first day I switched, I started looking for the perfect mouse to match the cosmetic look of my Mac. I knew after my first experience with the Mighty Mouse that I would have a difficult time using it. The issues with the Mighty Mouse however, proved not to be enough to hold me back from purchasing. But for some people it may be nearly impossible to use.

The root of the problem is simply that it is not a true “two-button mouse.” For some people this will mean nothing more than changes in their computing habits. Most noticeably, in order to right click with the mouse your left finger must be lifted completely up off of it. It could be that this issue is fixable with a simple software update from Apple or a hack, or it may be unchangeable do to the hardware. This annoyed me greatly, but after a few hours of regular use I found myself adjusting.

If you are a gamer this will probably stop you from purchasing it altogether. Why? As an example, imagine yourself playing a First Person Shooter. As in most games you are holding down the right button to zoom in on your target, you finally have it in perfect view and you left click to fire. What happens? Nothing. You have to exit the zoom by lifting your finger off the right button before you can make use of the left one. Personally that isn’t an issue for me, but I’m sure many Mac gamers that would never be able to switch for that reason alone.

Before using the Mighty Mouse I was using a standard Logitech Optical USB Mouse. Using the Mighty Mouse makes everyday computing feel much more eloquent than using a third party device. The scroll ball undeniably has a much smoother feel than your average scroll wheel, thus adding to your browsing experience. The four customizable buttons are fantastic, but it would have been nice to be able to set the middle button and side buttons too handle primary and secondary clicks.

Whether or not the Mighty Mouse is a good mouse for you, depends on what you do on a daily basis and if you are willing to make those habitual changes to your clicking. I would however not base my experience with the Mighty Mouse only by using it in the store, as after I brought it home I found myself enjoying it a lot more. But the truth is that at USD $49.00 for the wired version and $69.00 for the wireless, you may feel completely unfulfilled as the mouse does not make its own gravy. I can’t give it anymore than three stars whole-heartedly.

It sure beats the hockey puck though. Those things gave me such hand cramps.

Oh Apple Puck Mouse, how you thwarted my productivity in the Mac Lab in High School.

Anyone know why the right click doesn’t work as well with the wireless Mighty Mouse - it seems this happens when every my iMac wakes up from sleep…short of turning off my mouse and turning it back on, this seems to be the only solution. Anyone have any ideas?

“right click doesn’t work as well with the wireless Mighty Mouse”…. How about not at all. I have seen this problem complained about in numerous forums. I could get the right click to work by turning the mouse off and on, but only momentarily. Since Apple stores aren’t very plentiful where I’m deployed here in Afghanistan, I couldn’t easily return my new mouse. My “solution” was to go into Preferences and swap Right and Left button clicks. Now both buttons work albeit reversed, but it’s certainly awkward.

Take a look at the program called “Steermouse” it had greatly enhanced my experience with my Wireless Mighty Mouse.

I was missing the back and forward buttons from my logitech mouse - but with Steermouse I can set “scroll left” and “scroll right” to do the same in Safari only, but not in other programs - it works really well and let’s me keep the cool looking MM with my iMac without loosing too much functionality.

I’m sorry to say, but it seems Apple cannot make good computer mice. Even the cheapest recent Intellipoint mouse made by Microsoft outperforms any mouse ever made by Apple in many ways. Even Logitech makes better mice nowadays.

I’ve had my wireless Might Mouse just shy of four months and haven’t had any problems with it, and I’m still on the same set of batteries!

I right now sit on the fence on whether or not to purchase this or not. I am a graphic designer and I want to buy a Wacom Pad but I am not 100% sure I want to take up that much space with one of those. To be honest all I want is a Bluetooth mouse. Thank you for the review, do you have any suggestions or recommendation for something that is just as good or better? Please email me with any info, I have been wanting to make a purchase asap.

I have never had any problem with Logitech mice outside of their not matching my Apple Keyboard

If Mighty Mouse is crap, could someone recommend me a good Bluetooth-mouse? Note: When I say “Bluetooth”, I mean it. No dongles or anything like that. Since the Mac-laptops are seriously starved for USB-ports, I have no interest in permanently occupying one of those precious USB-ports with a frigging dongle.

    So 100% dongle-free Bluetooth-mouse: Any suggestions?

Sounds like a segment for MacCast, Bluetooth mice. I have looked up on PCmag.com for some info but nothing that was really helpful. Dongle free would be very very helpful too. It is nice though that my G5 already has built in bluetooth so if it comes with the mouse no worries.

It is funny though for the price of the might mouse compared to other Bluetooth mice I thought it would be more expensive but it actually is right there with some of the higher priced ones. Man it would be nice to hear how that mouse works out after a good amount of use. I have heard things about trying to clean that scroll ball to its lack of working the greatest. I might just have to stomach this and just purchase the stupid thang. Any more info please hit me up too!!

I don’t have one but I’ve heard very good things about it. My brother has The Ball BT and loves it.
