Oops! I meant to say that I cannot abide my the advice to accept The Apple Way vis-a-vis iPhoto libraries.

I’m as big a Kool-Aid drinker as there is, but your advice to accept The iPhoto Way of keeping bloated libraries. There was a freeware called iPhoto Diet that would safely remove originals that had been modified. It seems to have fallen a bit behind (it’s good for early versions of iPhoto 6). I am currently using iPhoto Buddy to make separate libraries and switch among them. I have work-related and personal photos and I am offended that I cannot make separate libraries for the distinct groups without using a third-party app.

I’m a crop-o-maniac, so my library bloats up real good!

I came up with a safe way to slim down your library without using third-party products (but you lose the convenience). I took 25 4-megapixel photos and imported them into a new iPhoto library (33 MB). Then, I cropped each and every one and the library grew to 38 MB. I exported all of the cropped pictures, full-size, to a folder on the Desktop, and then trashed them from iPhoto. (At that point, the library shrunk to about 750 KB.) I finally imported the pictures from the desktop folder, and the library weighed in at a svelte 6 MB. All the EXIF data was intact, that is, the datestamp on the photo persisted even through the crop.

And, it’s a sad thing, because at the very end of the show, Adam gave away 10 new iMacs to the first ten listeners who wrote in. I just picked up my 24-incher at my local Apple Store and it is gorgeous. Adam, you are the greatest person EVAR!

Anyone else have this problem! Good job Adam…I have to listen to your podcast on my iPod because my parents complain about your accent (we are Aussies).
