Have they done this? NO! The profits have been used to line the pockets of the executives. They should be investigated by Congress. I urge everyone to write their state’s Utilities Commission and their State Attorney General’s office. They’re basically double-dipping. They’re getting their rate rates, and then charging us for having small pipes. I’m not a conspiracy theorist, but if I was, this would be a perfect plan. They finally see the internet is the future, and going to make sure they control it. The people need to take it back. You’re going to see more data sniffing violating privacy laws, and more traffic shaping to prioritize traffic to how they wish.

There are even potential plans to “own” networks. In other words, like Time-Warner may have a subset of the internet that only their customers can use. Want to do a search or download material owned by Disney? Sorry, you need to pay a surcharge or a royalty to access “that” part of the internet. It’s not that far-fetched. I’m a network engineer and have been in many meetings where things like this were discussed.

I’ll get off my soapbox, but if we don’t do something now, the internet will eventually become nothing but a money-making spyware entity. You can bet on it.
