Only 2.0 megapixels for camera? Lol, it's the same, like the one I'm using now in my mobile:/ i know that camera in iphone is not so important for most of customers, but there are some users like me, that uses the mobiles to take photos very often.

SMS not bundled in that? Ouch. Typical phone companies. Want to squeeze every bit of money out of a customer that they can. ..I think I'd stick with a 2g service and the nicer contract. :) I'm wondering what kind of a deal it will be down here in New Zealand when it appears in a month. I'm already on a contract with Vodaphone here, so worst case I should be able to stick with that (I hope), but it's a real duopoly in the cellphone market here: two big companies that don't care to compete too much. I'm prepared for the possibility of not getting an iPhone if the deal sucks too much.

SMS is not bundled in the $30/month:

Just read this on GigaOM:
http://gigaom.com/2008/06/09/att-mobility-ceo-new-3g-iphone-game-changer/

OM: Has there been a change in the cost of data plans?
RDLV: The data plans are different on the 3G iPhone vs. the 2G iPhone. Consumers will pay $30 a month every month, while enterprises will pay $45 a month. This is what you pay us on other PDA devices such as BlackBerry Curve. The SMS messages are not bundled anymore, and you pay for what you want. Again, the prices are based on what you buy.

So, not only is the monthly cost going up $10/month, but SMS messages are going to cost you on top of that.

A bit of a disappointment on the hardware side of things. They added the bare minimum of what was expected; that is to say 3G data and GPS.

I was hoping to a see a bump in the storage department to 32 GB; and to a lesser extent, I would have like to have seen the camera go one notch up to 3 megapixels.

Now that Apple has embraced the more traditional (U.S.) sales model of subsidized handsets, they have another $200 to play with to build some higher end devices. AT&T and other carriers seems to have no trouble selling the high-end HTC smartphones and others. One would think Apple could easily play in this space as well.

Adam: Looks to me like the 16Gb is available in black and white.

Drew: iPhones are now being activated in store, so you won't be able to do that.

The Touch does not require a AT&T contract with an additional cost of $70 per month to use ($39.99 plus $30 - the data service will increase to $30 with the new phone)
