Thanks for mentioning RadTech in the podcast. I checked out the site and decided to order the black ScreenSavrz for my MacBook Air. Exactly what I've been looking for. You always seem to mention the best companies and suggest some very interesting products. Thanks again!

Is USB the new SCSI?

Your comments on Colonel Panics and USB configuration/topology resonated with me. I had an ongoing problem with USB on our G$ Cube. Flaky sound, System Preferences Sound settings changing for no reason, Sound Output controls disabled, etc. Then, one or both USB port on the rear of the 20" Apple HD LCD became unreliable. Not to mention the occasional kernel panic, USB related.

Moving port and hub usage around seemed to stop the panics, but I was strongly reminded of the good old days of SCSI and moving devices around in a rubber-chicken-sacrifice ritual. I always thought it was the Cube, so when the after-market NVIDIA video card died (with its own spate of kernel panics) I was relieved to buy a Mac Mini for my SO.

I am still using the Apple softball-size speakers out of one of the Mini's USB ports, although I wasn't sure I shoulda. A Grffin iMic feeds an old SONY 2.1 powered speaker system, sounds great. We don't need a hub. It Just Works™.

Forgot to mention: that's the same price I would have paid for the RAM with ME doing the upgrade. So those of you having a reseller in the vicinity it's probably a good option.

Hi all. Just wanted to chime in onto the memory upgrade with mac mini. I just bought a new mac mini at a local authorized reseller. They upgrade the memory from 2 to 4 GB for €100 total. And I got to keep the two 1 GB modules. So a great deal in comparison to what Apple charges.
