The MacBook discussion was especially timely as I’m considering getting one. Very much appreciated.

Been a fan as long as I have been a switcer. I’d support you on a subscription model, what types of stuff do would you be adding for subscribers?

    Jimi,
I’m still working out all the details, but stay tuned. Is there something you would like to see that would make a subscription worthwhile to you?

hey Adamant, that’s a good question. Maybe some in depth troubleshooting and problem solving. Or really great industry insider guests, just something other than news aggregated from other websites. Maybe basic programming for the everyday Mac user, say in automater for example.

Thanks Adam for the 4 categories of backup with explanation. Another method that is specific/limited is to actually print documents. This is something that is often overlooked. I will print special receipts and personal documents.

Another thing I always do when traveling is to print all important information for my trip onto 3×5 cards such as scheduled appointments, flight information, phone numbers, passport numbers, etc.

On the iPad, I’m still trying to decide between “3G” and “not 3G.”

I just saw a comment in the New York Times about how great maps will be on the iPad — and it got me to thinking that the iPad could be a terrific urban driving guide.

I cannot recall whether the 3G will have GPS, but presume it will or it could triangulate off 3G towers to update your current position, so any thoughts on that? (Uh,oh — suddenly poor screen visibility in direct sunlight becomes an issue…)

What other iPad functionality might you give up without 3G?

I am leaning toward 3G, so will appreciate a push in that direction.

I just heard your podcast with Jason Snell on the iPad, and I appreciated you bringing up “the” question.

I fully agree with the conclusion that the occasional times 3G is needed will make the extra cost of the 3G unit justified.

Another thing that is going to save money is that it will allow me to put off the purchase of a new Macbook Pro for at least a year. So presumably it will extend the life of my present laptop, which is getting a bit long in the tooth, or let me better time my purchase for the next advanced model.

    Definitely WiFi + 3G, then!
