A podcast about all things Macintosh. For Mac geeks, by Mac geeks. Episode 139. Apple held it’s latest event yesterday and while it was titled, “We’ve got a little more to show you” it was obviously a clever play on words as they have a lot to talk about. Here’s a little recap and my thoughts on what Apple has to show us.

My prediction is that a lot of the potential confusion in the Mac notebook market (specifically in the 13″ and 15″ segments) is going to go away in the next year or so. It’s confusing now because we’re in an awkward transitional period. As soon as Apple can get the price points on the Retina Macbook Pros a little lower, they’ll axe the non-retina versions and there will only be one line of Pro laptops.

Then Apple will be left with a fairly well delineated notebook line. If you want the thinnest and lightest notebooks at the expense of power, get the Macbook Air. If you need more power and are willing to accept a slightly bigger laptop, get the Macbook Pro. With two different form factors, any price point overlap becomes largely irrelevant.
