This is a video interview I did shortly after Apple’s special iPhone 4 antenna press event yesterday with Dave from Geekanoids.

About a month or so ago I was contacted by the local NBC affiliate here in San Diego to get my thoughts on a story they were working on based on a report they had received from their Washington DC office. The story was about a woman that someone from the DC station knew who’s 2nd gen iPod Nano exploded and caught fire while charging. The basic spin they wanted on the story was that iPods were potentially unsafe and could catch fire. Trouble is, neither I nor any other expert they could track down would play along. In the end they ended up doing a broader piece on dangers of lithium ion batteries. Maybe not 100% accurate, but there have been some recalls and (despite the sensational promos and story headline) the story did a fairly decent job explaining that in normal use these batteries are relatively safe and it’s only when the batteries are improperly handled that there could be some issues. I was interviewed on camera for over 20 minutes and ended up with just a quick sound byte at about 3:11 in. You can see the whole segment in the Quicktime video above (click the image to play). They did get a nice shot of the modded Apple logo on my G4 iBook.

The other day our friend Richard Tanner, who wrote the excellent Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Macintosh (HHGTTM) series for Maccast.com, invited me to be on his podcast. It was a ton of fun and we had a great time talking about my history with Macs and Apple and about how the Maccast came to be. I want to thank him for asking me to be on his show.

As for his show, any of you Mac historians out there you should really check it out. Richard took the complete series he wrote here and adapted it to podcast form. I have to say it came out great. He has also added some more recent content to the series, bringing it up to date with the latest developments from Cupertino. So as I mentioned on the last Maccast, I was recently invited over to have a chat with IA and JB of the Killing Time Podcast. The show is kind of a media pop-culture opinion show where they talk movies, TV, comic books and more. Since I am into all that stuff I guess I fit the bill. Recently I was lucky enough to have Bill Palmer (iProng) and Shelly (Shelly’s Podcast) invite me to be on their iProng Radio Show. It was their first of the five live podcasts recorded at the Podcast & Portable Media Expo. I was on with Bill, Shelly and Dave Hamilton from The Mac Observer, iPod Observer and Mac Geek Gab. It had been three weeks since Steve Jobs’ Show Time event and we discussed the new iPods, iTunes, 7, Apples upcoming iTV product, and more. I finally had the opportunity to sit down and have a discussion with long time MacCast listener and fellow podcaster Colm, from The Colmination. To kick off the discusssion we tried out iLife ’06 and it’s new iChat recording features, we do the Colmination Top 5 Mac-style and talk about our histories with Apple and the Mac.
