A podcast about all things Macintosh. For Mac geeks, by Mac geeks. Episode 194. Why are more “A” tier indie devs leaving Apple’s Mac App Store (MAS)? This past week another developer, Bohemian Coding, announced they are leaving. This is just another in what seems like a growing list of top level Mac Developers who have tried the MAS and ultimately decided it’s not working. I said long ago that I wasn’t very keen on an App Store coming to that Mac, but when it arrived it did bring some nice conveniences. Still now almost five years later it seems like many of the same issues and concerns are still with us. What’s going on? What’s causing this exodus and what, if anything, should we or Apple be doing about it.

A podcast about all things Macintosh. For Mac geeks, by Mac geeks. Episode 191. All this talk of Apple getting into the TV production business had made me worried, but why? I feel like Apple is already spread too thin and this could just be another distraction taking focus away from their hardware and software. But is that a legitimate concern? I thought a deeper into this idea was in order.

A podcast about all things Macintosh. For Mac geeks, by Mac geeks. Episode 190. This week I wanted to talk about the discussions that have cropped up surrounding measuring the success of the Apple Watch, and by proxy Apple. Some recent data from Slice seemed to indicate slowing Apple Watch sales and that one story lead to a lot of analysis and inevitably to a bunch of “Apple is doomed” stories. I wanted to step back and take a bigger look at how we might measure success as it relates to Apple in a bit better way.

A podcast about all things Macintosh. For Mac geeks, by Mac geeks. Episode 189. This week I ran across a great piece over on Cult of Mac by developer Graham Bower. In it he talked about the struggle many developers have to make a buck in the store and how that struggle can lead to developing apps in ways that don’t always put the user or app experience first. To help Graham presents a “manifesto”, “10 rules for classy apps“. In this episode I go over those rules and explain why I think if developers followed the manifesto our Apps and the App Store would be a much better place.

A podcast about all things Macintosh. For Mac geeks, by Mac geeks. Episode 188. Having recently turned on Apple’s iCloud Photo Library for Photos I’ve been thinking a bit about cloud storage and syncing for photos. Apple’s offering might be the best integrated if you’re a Mac and iOS user, but what about alternatives. In this episode I’ll share my experience with trying Flickr’s new service. It offers more storage for free and my reaction might surprise you.

A podcast about all things Macintosh. For Mac geeks, by Mac geeks. Episode 187. I’ve been thinking about the Apple Watch. Maybe too much. The reviews are out and I’ve read them all. I’ve also tried on and played with the Apple Watch now and have my own observations, comments, and questions. So, it is worth all the hype and obsession and who is this thing for?

A podcast about all things Macintosh. For Mac geeks, by Mac geeks. Episode 185. When Apple announced HomeKit at CES I got pretty excited, but that quickly died down as the buzz around HomeKit turned to barely a hum. Then CES hit and a number of companies announced HomeKit products and my excitement peaked again. The idea of home automation is a geeks dream, but so far making that a reality has been more of a nightmare. Apple’s HomeKit promises to change that, but can it? I grabbed my friend Kelly Guimont (from The Mac Observer), who’s been doing some home automation of her own, and we talked about it.
