V Apple and ThinkSecret Settle lawsuit
V Apple originally filed the lawsuit against Nick Ciarelli of ThinkSecret, in January of 2005 alledging misappropriation and disclosure of Apple's trade secrets, a violation of California law.
* This was over a correctly predicited leak about the sub-$500 Mac Mini
* In March 2005 Ciarelli and his lawyers from EFF filed a countersuit and Apple backed off.
* Details of the settlement were not disclosed, but ThinkSecret will cease publishing and Ciarelli is quoted as saying he is "very satisfied" with the deal.
* He began the site at 13 and is now 22 and a senior majoring in Social Studies at Harvard
* The lawyers fell this is really a loss for Apple thinking they settled because they didn't have a case. Plus Ciarelli was able to avoid disclosing his sources.
* In December of 2004 Apple filed similar suits against ThinkSecret, O'Grady's PowerPage and AppleInsider. In those cases a state appeals court ruled that online journalists enjoy the same rights as traditional media reporters to protect the confidentiality of their sources. Apple didn't appeal the decision.

V Sharing Photos and Music
V Turn on sharing in iPhoto and iTunes
V iPhoto->Preferences->Sharing tab
* Look for shared photos
* Share my photos and specify albums. Can even set a username and password
V iTunes->Preferences->Sharing tab
* Look for Shared Libraries
* Share My Library, then specify what to share. Can password protect the share.
V Move iPhoto Library to a shared volume
* Backup iPhoto Library
* Connect an external drive, Get Info, Check ignore permissions on this volume
* Copy iPhoto Library to this volume.
* Hold down option when starting iPhoto, select Choose Library... and select the library on the external. Do for each user.
* Only one user can be accessing the library at a time.
* This tip can also work with a sparse disk image in the /Users/Shared/ folder. You will need to mount the image before launching iPhoto, place in Startup Items
V Move iTunes Library to a shared volume
* Similar to the iPhoto methods with a big gotcha. The iTunes Library and iTunes Library.xml files.
V before moving to shared volume consolidate.
V Preferences-->Advanced. Check"
* Keep iTunes Music Folder Organized
* Copy files to ITunes Music Folder When Adding to Library
* Advanced-->Consolidate Library...
* New files added from different accounts won't show up in other library. Use the Advanced->Consolidate Library or drag the iTunes Music Folder onto the Library in iTunes.
V Play counts, Playlists, etc won't sync.
* Use a tool like Martian Slingshot
www.martian.com
* Move the iTunes Library and iTunes Library.xml files to the shared volume and then create symbolic links (from terminal) in the Home/Music/iTunes folder. (Not really recommended)
V Save "broken" old mac with a new battery
* Play comment from Thomas
* Battery used to keep settings in memory like clock settings, also PRAM settings, etc.
* Explain CUDA
* Motherboard batteries can be picked up at RadioShack in the US.
V Apple "refurbished" products
* Listener Scott was wondering about a deal on a new iMac 24-inch 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo on Craigslist for$1550 vs. the same model from Apple as "refurbished" ($1549).
* On Apple store website at bottom left you will find the Special Deals including "refurbished" products.
* I love refurbished. Good savings, same warranty. Has probably had better QA than a new item.
V Each Apple Certified Refurbished Product:
* is fully tested (including full burn-in testing).
* is refurbished with replacement parts for any defective modules identified in testing.
* is put through a thorough cleaning process and inspection.
* is repackaged (including appropriate manuals, cables, new boxes, etc.).
* includes the operating software originally shipped with the unit and the custom software offered with that system.
* is given a new refurbished part number and serial number.
* is placed into a Final QA inspection prior to being added to sellable refurbished stock.
* "Refreshed" products in the Apple retail stores are different.
V Previous system folders and 2nd Application folders.
V Listener Steve has been using Leopard for 2 months and still has the "previous" system folder from his archive and install of Leopard. Everything has been working fine. Can he delete it now?
* Also has a Tiger SuperDuper backup and Time Machine running.
* Also noticed a second "Applications" folder in his Home directory, but with no applications in it. Default one is at the root of the drive with all his apps.
V Holiday Mailing Labels from Address Book
* Brain wanted to use Address Book to print Avery labels for holiday cards.
* Trouble in getting the name field to print all names in a family. John Doe, Jane, and Billy or John Doe and Family.
V Trick is having entries for each family member and then using the "Related Names" field
* Address Book --> Preferences --> Add Field
* Choose 'Related Names', if it is grayed out it is already added.
V Now click edit on the main card "John Doe" and add related names.
* Click the "+" symbol and select the appropriate label like "spouse" and add the entry.
* As long as there is another entry with that name at the same address it will combine the names on the label
* Add "Family' as spouse to get 'John Doe and Family'
* Why Apple can't just let you edit the Address Book printed label template and add the fields you want is beyond me.
V To print the labels choose print if the advanced options aren't visible click the blue expansion arrow next to the printer selector.
* Under the Address Book settings select Mailing Labels as the style
* In the Layout Tab select the mailing label style, such as standard Avery Templates
* In the 'Label' tab you can customize which address to use like home or office. Also change font's and add a label image.
