Apple TV app coming to consoles
V
According to Windows Central Apple and Microsoft are working together to bring the Apple TV app to XBox
*
Right now it looks like it is available to a limited number of testers
*
The app will function just like the Apple TV or the app found on smart TVs, but will work with the XBox controller as a remote
V
There are additional reports that Apple is also working with Sony to bring their TV app to Playstation consoles as well
*
The source for 9to5 Mac also says that they are trying to get HomeKit support in the TV app on Playstation consoles though that feature might come later
*
There are no details on when the app will make it to the consoles nor were there details on if only newer models would be getting the app or if it would be available to older consoles as well.
V

*
Also mentions that a new controller is also in development. Unclear if that means a new Siri remote or an actual Apple game controller
*
"Billie Eilish: The World's A Little Blurry" documentary will premiere in theaters and Apple TV+ in February 2021

First impressions Apple Watch Series 6
V
New packaging in interesting
*
Minimalistic, environmental (sort of?) - long box for just watchface
*
You get a watch and band seperate wrapped by an outer wrapper.
*
Setup was a breeze
*
thinner profile compared with my Series 2
*
Love the space grey color. went with a yellow (ginger?) band
V
Speed was the immediate upgrade I noticed
*
Launching apps. I might actually use apps now.
*
Always on face also makes it feel “quicker”
*
Feels a lot more “integrated” and seemless moving from my watch to my iPhone
V
I am using the new sleep tracking feature, only beenb a couple nights
*
Charge in the AM whaile getting ready in the morning. Seems to do fine.
*
Overall I say a worthwile upgrade probably for anyone coming from a Series 3 or earlier?
V
Scary Apple Watch fix for missing GPS data
*
After upgrading to watchOS 7 a number of users of GPS cellular Apple Watches were noticing missing GPS workout data
*
Basically previous workouts done using GPS without the iPhone present were just showing the starting position in the map data in the Fitness app
V
Other issues:
*
Activity, Heart Rate, or other health-related apps fail to launch or load data on your Apple Watch.
*
Fitness app or Health app fail to launch or load data on your ‌iPhone‌.
*
Health app or Fitness app is reporting an inaccurate amount of data storage on your ‌iPhone
*
Activity app is reporting an inaccurate amount of data storage on your Apple Watch
*
Environmental sound levels data or headphone audio levels data from Apple Watch is missing in the Health app on ‌iPhone
*
Increased battery drain on your ‌iPhone‌ or Apple Watch
V
Apple’s recommended fix may be frightening to some
*
Unpair your Apple Watch, which will force a backup to the iPhone
*
Backup the ‌iPhone‌ and Apple Watch
*
Erase both devices
*
Restore from your backups
*
Apple has an [updated support article](https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT211865) to walk you through the procedure
V
There has been some indication that Apple is looking into this issue and it might be an issue on the iCloud side
*
Some say they might have a fix in a future update
V
If you want to get a copy of your data you can get it from your Apple ID account

Slow Mac, check the battery
*
Received an email from Derek who is the proud owner of a 2011 15-inch MacBook Pro that is still going strong
*
Or was
*
He recently noticed a sudden downgrade in performance
*
The laptop actually functions mostly as a desktop, always plugged in
V
Checked and cleared disk space
*
Always a good idea, but that was not it
*
Has an SSD, so that was fine too
V
Checked activity monitor and saw the “"Kernel Task” using 300% CPU
*
This is often a sign that the Mac is “throttling” for some reason, often heat
*
Basically it’s designed to “steal” CPU cycles from other app in an attempt to slow them down to get cooling under control.
*
Then he noticed he had not heard the fans running and that there was no battery icon in the menubar anymore
*
The system saw no battery at all.
*
Turns out a low or dead battery will also cause your Mac to throttle
*
If you have older / aging MacBook or MacBook Pro and it’s slowing, might be worth checking the battery health
V
Checking the battery health
*
Apple > About this Mac
*
In the “Overview” tab, click “System Report”
*
Click on “Power” in the sidebar
V
Check the “Health Information"

About charge cycles
V
A charge cycle happens when you use all of the battery’s power—but that doesn’t necessarily mean a single charge.
*
Use 50% one day, recharge to 100% and the do that again the next day. That’s one charge cycle
V
The number of cycle count limits on battery life varies my your Mac model
*
[See Apple Support Article](https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201585) for the numbers.
*
Ranges from 300 to 1000
*
Most 2009 or later models of MacBooks and MacBook Pros are 1000 cycles
*
You can still use a battery after it reaches it’s charge cycle limit, but it’s battery life will be degraded
*
Typically when a battery only holds about 75% of it’s original charge capacity then it’s time to replace it.
V
In macOS 10.15.5 Catalina Apple introduced a battery health management feature
*
Designed to improve your battery's lifespan by reducing the rate at which it chemically ages.
*
The feature does this by monitoring your battery's temperature history and its charging patterns.
*
In this mode it may reduce the maximum charge
*
It monitors your battery's temperature history and its charging patterns.
*
Then uses these to charge to a level that's optimized for your usage—reducing wear on the battery, and slowing its chemical aging.
V
You can turn it off if you want
*
Choose System Preferences from the Apple menu , then click Energy Saver.
*
Click Battery Health.
*
Deselect Battery health management, then click OK.
V
Derek ordered and installed a new battery from [OWC](https://macsales.com)
*
After install the Mac was back to it’s former glory and performance.
V
