iPhone 12 and 12 Pros arrive

Ming-Chi Kuo said that iPhone 12 Pro pre-order beat their expectations

Thinks between the two phones Apple likely got between 7 to 9 million pre-orders

That nearly matches the numbers of ALL iPhone 11 model pre-orders

We still have the iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 12 Pro Max roll outs coming

Cause him to revise his prediction on how the model sales would rank with consumers

Originally he felt the iPhone 12 would be 40-45 percent of sales with the iPhone 12 Pro accounting for 15-20%

He’s revised both to have between 30-35 percent

He lowered his estimate form the iPhone 12 mini down to 10-15 percent from 20-25 percent

Says that there is “weak” demand for the smaller device in the Chinese market.

If you operate an iPhone 12 model in dual SIM mode, using the internal SIM and eSIM at the same time, you won’t currently be able to use 5G

The limitation was revealed in an internal Apple Support document

Good news is this is likely a software bug and it’s expected to be resolved later this year.

Tom’s Hardware ran some 5G battery tests

The results were not great.

They did web surfing tests

The iPhone 12 went from 10h 23m on 4G, to 8h 25m on 5G

The iPhone 12 Pro from from 11h 24m to 9h 6m

They also noted that the Smart Data mode doesn’t always kick in when you think it would.

Only happens in certain scenarios

Example, when streaming music with the screen turned off.

The new iPhone 12s do have smaller batteries than the previous gen and 5G will take a toll.

Still, is this an issue? I don’t have an issue getting through a day.

If you want to fast charge with the new Apple MagSafe charger you need Apple’s 20W power adapter

The 18W one will not do it, it will work with bricks down to 12W, but if you want full fast charging you need the 20W brick

Also, there are some indications from one set of YouTubers tests, that the charging rates for non-MagSafe, no-iPhone 12 models may be slower than expected

Claims we was only getting 1-3W, not the 7.5W you’d expect from a Qi compatible charger

I don’t have issues with Charging rates as I don’t tend to need to “fast charge” my phone. Is this really a thing?

Apple also says that the MagSafe Charger might show circular imprints on Apple’s leather case

Also warns to not place credit cards, security badges, passports, or key fobs between the iPhone and MagSafe Charger as it could damage them

I want my Apple Music TV

Apple has launched a 24-hour live streaming music channel on Apple TV and Apple Music

Currently available in the US

It will include ‘exclusive new music videos and premiers, special curated music video blocks, and live shows and events as well as chart countdowns and guests.

Should be able to access it via the Browse tab of the Apple Music (Music videos section) and in the Apple TV app.

Peanuts working for Apple

Apple has a new deal with with Peanuts Worldwide and Lee Mendelson Film Productions for content on Apple TV+

The agreement will bring new original content and the Peanuts classics to Apple’s platform

There will be a second season of Snoopy in Space

Also new specials for Mother’s Day, Earth Day, New Year’s Eve, and going back to school.

Apple has also made available It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown

Exclusive on Apple TV+, but available for free from October 30 until November 1

They will also have A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving in November and A Charlie Brown Christmas in December

Apple also announced they bought the the worldwide distribution rights to "The Velvet Underground," a new documentary about the band by the same name and directed by Todd Haynes

Scarlet Johansson will star and produce a new film for Apple TV+ called “Bride”

And coming from A24 studio

Apple might also be looking to acquire the release rights for the latest bond film, “No Time to Die,”

It’s the 25th in the franchise and the last one that will star the current Bond, Daniel Craig

It was set to release in April but has been delayed due to Corona.

The cure rent release date is April 2021

There were rumors at one point that Apple was trying to get the right to the entire franchise for Apple TV+

Some Apple Watch SEs overheating

It started with some Reddit posts in South Korea, but Mac Rumors confirmed at least one case in the US

Owners reported the watch getting hot on their wrist or while on the charger

Later it developed a yellow “hot spot” on the display in the upper right hand corner

Speculation is it could be some models with faulty display connectors near the Taptic Engine

So far the issue appears to be impacting a very very small number of users

Saying the launch is “imminent”

Now there’s some indication that the tags could come in two sizes

Prosser says final performance testing will be completed on November 6.

Suggesting Apple could launch them in November

There’s still speculation of a November Apple Silicon event

The “tags” are said to be round and white. Apple logo, either front or back

Prosser has said they are slightly larger than a bottle cap

Sony microdisplays in Apple Glass

A report from a Japanese publication and corroborated by display industry analyst Ross Young says that Apple plans to use Sony OLED microdisplays for it’s rumored AR glasses

The displays are said to be cutting-edge small video displays with fast response, high-contrast image technology and precise color reproduction.

New default iOS bug

iOS 14 added the ability to assign a different browser or email app as “default”

Not long after the feature was released there was a bug discovered.

When you would re-boot the settings would be reverted

That was quickly fixed.

Now there is a new bug

When the App updates, the setting is reverted

Good news is Apple might already have this one patched in iOS 14.2 (beta)

Speaking of 5G

The reality is mmWave 5G right now seems EXTREMELY limited and spotty

I’ve heard it can be limited to specific streets in certain cities

Outside, needs line of sight.

My first 5G test was 164Mbps down and 76.6Mbps up

Not too shabby.

My LTE tends to be around 50-65Mbps

Tweak G5 Cellular settings

Go to Settings

Tap Cellular

Tap the Cellular Data Options

Tap Voice & Data

Change from the default, 5G Auto to 5G On to use it anytime it’s available

Tap LTE to disable 5G completely

From the Cellular settings you can also tweak the Data Mode

From “Allow More Data on 5G”, can switch to “Standard” or even “Low Power”
