Apple says “I love you” by upgrading your MacBook Pro

Core HeartWell the big news from Apple on V-day is that they will be giving more power to the MacBook Pro buyers. I am sure for many of those who pre-ordered a MacBook Pro this is a nicer present than those chalky candy hearts. Apple upgraded the Intel Core Duo processor in the 1.67 GHz model to 1.83 GHz and the 1.83GHz model up to 2.0GHz. They also added a 2.16GHz Core Duo as an optional build to order upgrade. The new option does make me wonder how many people will cancel their 2.0GHz orders and pick up one of the new faster ones. Come to think of it, this may be a ploy by Apple to free up availability of the 2.0 GHz processors and sell more MacBook Pros (those sly devils). Many listeners immediately called Apple to make sure their pre-ordered models would be the upgraded units and Apple confrimed they would be. I guess it is just Apple way of saying, “We love you to the Core”.

Now that IS a great present! Will they be upgrading the video cards too? That is fantatstic. I can’t believe they are doing that.

Good news. But I’ve been moved from shipment date of the 15th to the 23rd. Though the mail notification I got from Apple says the following ..

“If we do not hear from you by February 18th, we will ship your MacBook
Pro with a 1.83 GHz processor”

So would that mean that it ships Tuesday 21st then? Since the 20th is President’s day. Have to wait and see.

Now that is what I call a Valentine’s Day gift. Rock on, Apple!

    this is good news..

however, am I the only person that sees this as an obvious, calculated marketing move by apple?

of course they under-specced the machines when they announced them, so that they could create this great illusion of gift-giving when the machines actually started shipping.

we all remember the fiasco when the first powermac G4s were launched, with apple pulling back the clock speed and shipping people machines lower specced than they ordered. seems pretty obvious to me that apple is not missing the opportunity to consciously do the very opposite at the start of the intel era, to start off on a better foot.

basic marketing will tell you how much this kind of goodwill from customers is worth, especially when you compare it with the loss of goodwill you generate by doing what happened with the G4s…

“We love you to the Core”
That is a great line Adam
I think they were just being conservative on their estimates which processors they would ifnally ship with the MacBook Pros.
Which can have many reasons battery life, heat etc.
Still great Apple just loves us to the Core ;) :D

My understanding is that the New MACBOOK PRO 2.0 is upgradebale to the faster 2.16 without trading in your preordered macbook pro. I THINK that they will just swap out the chips for a price.
I just recieved an email from apple that my macbook pro will be in my hand on 02/24/06. That is pretty quick since there previous email said the approx date of delervery was more like march 15!. I can’t wait to play with my new toy!
