Adam, the Michael Rossback song reminded me of a Canadian songwriter/singer, Gentleman Reg. Two songs of his to note, “Give Me the Chance to Fail” from his “Make Me Pretty” album; and “It’s Not Safe” from his “Short Bus” album. I first heard his music in a Canadian film, “Wilby Wonderful”. His music is on iTunes.
