What I don’t understand, and I ain’t compainin’, is that there is no such thing as a 3.0GHz quad-core Xeon, so did Apple overclock this baby or what?

Like I told Adam earlier I must have been living under a rock. Oh, Apple also lowered prices on their Cinema Displays.

    http://www.apple.com/displays/

    Now $599 for 20″, $899 for 23″ and $1799 for 30″. :-)

The whole no more iSight, and now cheaper Cinema Display’s I think might be leading to something. How many surprises is Apple going to give us?

I’d use this thing as a server. I believe there is an option to install OS X server on these machines.

The cinema display price reduction is nice to see. No excuse not to pick up that 30″ one.

Indeed, I believe, for most people, the iMac is powerful enough as a desktop computer, and a Network Attached Server would have more than enough storage space for your Local Area Network.

Only professionals and very demanding home-users would probably have a need for all those eight cores.

Oh man! We used the same image on both our blogs :P
    sNaP.

We’ve all been expecting this for some while now, I’m pretty sure it was even predicted on the MacCast, you’d think Apple would make a little more fanfare about it. After all, its every macgeek’s dream to own one of these babies… right?

My question is when are they going to do an exterior case redesign? They’ve had that look for over 3 yrs now. They need to freshen it up.

    Jack, et al —

Apparently, Apple got the first 3.0 GHz processors from Intel. They have a slightly higher model number (I didn’t memorize it when I read this a couple of days ago), and they aren’t yet shown on the Xeon page on Intel’s website. For a few weeks, at least, these puppies will be the fastest workstations available, as far as I know.
