Apple Store updates coming?

At about 9:45 AM PST I noticed (see image below) that the Apple Online Store was showing a message that it was down for updates. Not sure if this is just a routine update or if something major is being added. Stay tuned.

Update: Oh well. It’s back up and I cannot see any major updates. I got excited there for a minute and thought maybe we were going to get a little pre-MacWorld treat. Looks like this was just a routine update after all.

Apple could have constructed the pages for the new products at Macworld, and you just can’t get to them, yet. Maybe they did it so the store would be updated instantly after the new products were announced.

    i likw how Appleologist thinks

Yeah, that theory is possible, but if they were just building the pages then why would they have needed to close off the entire online store? They could just add the new pages, but not give any way of accessing them until the new products are announced.

Hmmm, am no “techy” but I have built and maintained a few simple web sites and there generally is no need to do as Appleologist says (although it is an exciting idea) as the host can post a totally new site in next to no time, and IF Apple had put some hidden pages up on the site they would just be risking someone hacking around and finding them?!

Tha Apple Refurbished store here in the UK has moved from being a one day a week opening to 24/7 for the past month. It looks like Apple are trying to shift a large amount of refurbished current models at about 20-25% discount. Mostly Powerbooks and iBooks. Few iMacs or Powermacs.

Must be clearing the shelves for new models coming in.

Any sign of a live web feed of the Key-note address ?

I remember they did this a couple of years ago with mixed results, but not since then.

Yes, for simple websites that may be the case, but they very well may have been changing the current infrastructure of the site in preparation for the updates, which the both of you (Appleologist and ChrisM) have valid points – they probably wouldn’t upload the new product’s pages yet, but they would prepare the way for them.

Did that make any sense? I believe I’ve confused myself!

Makes sense to me – simple or complicated the process is pretty much the same :-)

    Happy New Year All :-)
