I think it looks really good for stuff a small device.

    Lets try that again.

I think it looks really good for a device that small.

Wow! The picture was great but I’m probably more impresssed with the audio quality. Sounded great.

Not bad. Similar to the iPhone 3GS in some respects.

Very disappointed in the jitter caused by the rolling shutter. Any movement of the camera causes a bad jelly-effect. I see a market for Nano tripods.

Really impressive. I just wish it was widescreen. Not bothered about HD, but widescreen would have been nice.

Wow the audio quality is amazing! The stupidest thing is still that clicking sound at the end of every video taken by an iPod nano.

Having a Flip myself I see some of the same jittering of the image, but I have to like the color and audio from the Nano. If you can get roughly the same quality and sound as the flip in a device that has everything else for the same price, it’s a tough decision to but a stand-alone camera.

That said, I think it’s good for a 1st gen effort, but I’m sure follow up models will get a better camera (cough…Touch).

Wow, really good! You should have used iMovie 09’s image stabilization though!

Let’s hope they get that hair distortion fixed in the next rev!

    Love the podcast!

I have played with a half dozen digital memory cameras and I own a Flip Mino, all of them suffer from the jittering on movement but the iPod seams to be a little more stable. The color and audio are fantastic. Just wish they had put one of these cameras in the new iPod Touch.

The Audio was wonderful and the video perfectly presentable.

Thanks for showing us the new Nano’s camera. All I got to say is wow that’s pretty good for a VGA camera, it’s no worse than the camera on my iPhone 3GS, and is almost as clear outdoors or indoors with plenty of light as my Flip Mino HD. Hopefully my 5 Gen video iPod is about to die, it’s hard drive is making clicking noises and it randomly has started rebooting. So I might be getting a new Nano to replace it. I don’t like listening to podcasts on my iPhone ’cause it sounds to “tinny” and hollow. Can’t wait to hear your thoughts on the next Maccast.

Man Adam, I guess I have a different take than most. I think the 3GS out does it 7 ways for Sunday. The flutter is really distracting. The iPhone 3GS is only $199 and does so much more. The Nano is just an ipod with a camera and no still pictures to boot. I know you have to kind of get these things to test them but I can’t see why anyone with a 3GS would buy a Nano. Sorry, not very impressed.

Stan a 3GS cost almost $1000 per year on top of the $199. At $149 you could buy a nano for yourself and six friends. Or buy a real video camera. I think the video looks perfect for the average youtuber and the audio sounds very good.

The quality’s better than I was expecting, but I still want to know what it is that other people are doing with their iPods that makes them suddenly need to shoot some video. I’d still rather carry both an iPod and a dedicated shirt-pocket camera any day.

Adam, might you be able to post the original file so we can see and hear exactly what it records before the Youtube upload?

Adam, I have an iPhone 3GS, so could not understand your lust for the new iPod Nano. However, I also have a 5.5 gen iPod that I use around the house and a little Sony earphone radio for listening to NPR when out and around on Saturday errands. After seeing your video unboxing and test, I’m now really hoping my current iPod “accidentally” falls into the toilet or…something. That red is gorgeous!
