I just wanted to congratulate you on your 500th show. As a Mac Geek, It’s great being able to listen to your podcasts as well as those from people like Ken Ray, Leo Laporte, Sarah Lane and many others.

    Hi, Adam,

Just recently started listening and enjoy the show.

My comment is related to early announcement of Apple products. As you mentioned, the original iPhone had a six month early announcement. How about the 20th Anniversary Macintosh? I remember waiting a long time of that machine to arrive.

    Keep up the great work.

    Bryan

Don’t worry about installing IOS8 on an iPhone 4s.

It works perfectly well on mine!

Regarding the feedback from John on carrier plans, I think there is another way to understand the plans and subsidy. I have a Mobile Share Value Plan with 2GB and 2 iPhones. I just adjusted my plan as my husband came out of contract and will be keeping his phone another year. His monthly fee went from $40 to $25 because he is no longer on contract. Based upon what I have read and the customer service summary I got from AT&T, everyone pays a mobile share participant fee (service fee) of $25 per phone. On top of that, if we are on a 2 year contract we bought our phones at a $450 discount from the non-contract price. We then pay $15 per month for 24 months, amounting to $360, and at the end of 2 years we have purchased our phone for $90 less than the non-contract price. Our subsidy was never $450, but actually $90 with $360 paid over time. Therefore, non-contract people pay $25 per month and nothing extra to pay off the phone. Contract purchases have worked this way for years. As an incentive to get people to move to the Mobile Share Value Plan, AT&T offered to write off the balance still owed on your current phone if your 2 year contract predated March 9, 2014. That $15 per month discount was for your current phone and was never meant to be a permanent reduction in your service fee. I would expect that all these discounts (whether $15 or $25) will end when your contract runs out. Without a contract the service fee on plans above 10GB may well revert to $25 and then back to $40 when a new contract takes effect. I don’t see this as AT&T gouging their customers, but giving them a break on their current contract in order to incentivize them to move to the Mobile Share Value Plan.

    Congratulations on the Big 500!!!

Its all the more stellar because you just don’t do ‘cheaters’. By that I mean that it isn’t one of those podcasts in which some peeps just get together and shoot the breeze. It’s so obvious that there’s a ton of prep that goes into every show — and you top it off by doing the extra work to do an AAC ‘enhanced’ podcast. That’s something extra that I always appreciate.

Its cool that you bought yourself a shiny new toy to celebrate!!
