I wasn’t aware of the fact that one could watch video on the iPod. Very cool.

Is there any way to transfer songs from one iPod to another without hooking up to a computer? My fiancee and I each have an iPod mini and once in a while I’d like to share a song with her, or vice versa. Any tips for such a quickie transfer?

    Fun show today. =) Thanks.

P.S. Please don’t laugh, but my first iPod mini was one of the Apple/HP co-branded models from Costco. It was $10 less, so I figured it was worth a try. It was garbage. The battery would only charge about 75% of the way despite being plugged in 8+ hours. The scroll wheel was faulty, too, making it hard to navigate for songs. I returned it, zipped over to the Apple store and got a pure-blood iPod mini and so far it’s 100% perfect.

And Adam – listening to your MacCasts made for an easy cross-country flight. Thanks!!

Is anyone else having problems downloading this episode? Neither iTunes nor the direct link seem to be working.

Holy crap, as soon as i saw itunes starting to download a new maccast episode, i was pretty shocked. A new one so soon, i was already putting my mind set to a week wait at least (in the meantime i had the eMaccast to keep me company on my pbook). Well currently downloading, keep up the great work man!

Adam, where did you find the vidcasts of Diggnation through iTunes (I found CommandN)? All I could find were the Diggnation podcasts (which I already subscribed to). I know the vidcasts are easily available via the diggnation/digg.com sites but watching videos on iTunes would be nice (and nicer on a vidPod!).

  8. Conrad | Jul 22 2005 - 05:19

The video Diggnation casts are just part of the same subscription – they just come out a day or two after the main audio cast. You can see the video and audio files on the same list under your subscription. Adam, i think you should take the same approach for the eCast – then you don’t break up your subscriber numbers as well and you don’t have two separate subs to clog the podcast list on the iPod.

  9. Nick | Jul 22 2005 - 05:27

I must have the reject version then, because my Diggnation subscription only show the audio (CommandN works fine, but then it also appears in the iTMS). I even tried re-subscribing to see if it was some code that was added later that wasn’t being added… no dice.

I just did another search on iTMS and the videos show up now, though I still don’t know what Conrad means as showing under the same subscription… that would be a good idea, but mine are downloading under a different subscription (which is fine with me at least I can keep them altogether now, my file system is a mess and this PB is only 3 months old! …I wonder if Kevin’s Systm videos are on iTMS as well — no).

    Adam:

I’m a new listener; discovered the MacCast via iTunes and it’s, far and away, myfavorite podcast!

I was listening to this episode and wanted to comment about the Airport Express/3rd party router compatibilit – I’ve been able to get my AE to work just fine w/ my Linksys WRT54G. Both have the current firmware revs and it wasn’t tough to get going at all!

I’m using it primarily to connect to my living room stereo and have had no problems whatsoever. In all fairness, I have to point out that my apartment is small so, frankly, I can’t tell whether or not the AE is repeating my signal (since my Linksys signal is already so strong due to it’s proximity to my laptop) but I have to assume it is repeating since the AirTunes part is working!

If anybody wants details about my setup in an effort to duplicate my success then let me know…

    Keep up the great work!

Airport Extreme and Linksys wireless routers

Adam… A comment on the podcast referred to having to “hack” the firmware in the airport extreme to get an extended wireless network? I don’t believe this is true.

I have an Airport Express and a Linksys WRT54G. So long as the Linksys firmware supports WDS, then the airport can participate in an extended wireless network. There are some “tricks”, the network name must be the same (same ssid), same channel, same password and each device most know about the other. A google search on “airport express and linksys wrt54g config” will give you heaps of references.

Also a key point to note: I can play Airtunes WITHOUT an airport card in my emac. in fact any of the macs or PC’s in my house can play Airtunes and none of them have wireless cards.

Note: I am running the latest firmware for the linksys from svaesoft.com, but Linksys standard firmware does support WDS. (Wireless Distributed System?)

    – David

p.s. You can create network issues if you have your Airport Express connected via Ethernet AND over the WDS. So just when you think youhave it all working it stops. The solution is to unplug the ethernet. I believe there are issues created with routing, but I don’t have the tech knowledge in this area to explain.

    Re: Coupons.
I recently needed to submit one of the coupons as proof-of-purchase to exchange the MacOS 10.4 install DVD for install CDs.
