Apple working with Sony on PS3?

Apple Logo on PS3On the official PS3 website, click on “Specs” or “Gallery” and then click back in your browser and you’ll see an Apple logo fade in and out quickly in the middle of the PS3 console in the image. Take a look at the image on the right and you can make out the faint Apple logo. Click the image to see the full screen grab I made from the sony PS3 site.

UPDATE: Looks like they may have updated the file and the logo is no longer there. You can still see the faint logo in the screenshot I took. Click the image on the right and you can see the full screenshot. It is a faint logo just above controller.

Mystery solved: And no, this isn’t a secret hint of the PS3 running a custom version of OS X. It is the more logical explanation of some contacted designer who didn’t want to pay for his software. An update on Engadget points out that the Apple logo will flash on projects authored with a trial version of Apple’s Shake. Oh well, here’s to daring to dream.

    I didn’t see any apple logo…
    …perhaps it was removed.

Is it just me, or does the Apple logo, along with the smoke, seem to be gone now?

  5. Themacman4 | Jul 07 2006 - 11:35

Wow, is that just a camra quark then?

  6. Phoenix | Jul 07 2006 - 11:18

It’s there, but very faint and hard to see. I think sony’s web programmer got bored.

Well, Xbox360 has Microsoft backing it, why shouldn’t
PS3 have Apple back up its product. If this is true, then expect to be on a very long list to get one.

the Xbox 360 has Microsoft backing because it’s made by Microsoft

It’s not there anymore, tried a few times to see if I could catch it.

If you were using a display made by apple it could be the apple logo shining through from the other side and making it seem like there’s and apple logo in the image.
    But maybe not, I dunno.

    Engadget has spoken to people…

Update: So from the sound of it Occam’s razor strikes again. Looks like that logo flashes when you author using a trial version of Apple’s Shake. So basically from what we can ascertain, Sony (or its ad agency) is too cheap to buy their people the full version of Shake, which goes for $500 list on Apple’s site. Tisk, tisk!

    Apple + Sony = PS3

I am now hearing stronger rumors that Sony is indeed working with Apple on the PS3. Most of this work is based around support for iTunes and iPop on the PS3.

iPod connectivity – Ability to connect the iPod to the PS3 and play it’s music through the PS3 to your stereo or other audio playback devices. Will also provide some graphical effects on your TV during playback

iTunes linkup – Access iTunes and your music through the PS3. Purchase and download additiona tracks through the PS3. Wirelessly play iTunes music from your PC/Mac through the PS3

Sync support – Use the PS3 to sync your iPod with iTunes, no need for a PC or Mac to sync and add/remove tracks and organize playlists.

Apple may also be helping Sony with some UI design for the PS3 dashboard interface.

No links, and for that I appologize, but I figured people would like to hear this information anyways.

If the rumors hold true, this would be mutually benefitical for Sony and Apple in a lot of ways.

Thank goodness this isn’t true. If Apple partners with any game company it HAS to be Nintendo.

Thats really funny, this is the best part:

“An update on Engadget points out that the Apple logo will flash on projects authored with a trial version of Apple’s Shake.”

I always pay for any software I use, i understand some people cant afford some software but if you work for a company such as sony, priceless.

Im starting to hate Sony these days, so its good to know that Apple’s not working with them on the PS3. I would have serious issues with Apple if they did that.

But, a partnership with Nintendo would make a lot more sense. Those companies are soo much alike its not even funny. Think about it.

this is a cool thouht although i would love to see apple work with the ninendo wii and have it using a stripped down version of OS10 or collaboration with basestation express and other kool stuff like that. possibly like wii games working in the mac mini (as sujested by stuff magazine) that would be cool! you wouldnt have to install all your games and stuff.
hope to see a surprise at the wii launch possible this is why not much has been said about ot cos w kno what apple is like with products mibey thats why some parts of the wii have not been given much coerage. we can only hope
    later,
    steve;o)

You can’t even save when you are on a trial version of shake!

Someone had decompiled the SWF and found out why this was happening. Sony was just too cheap, so they stole some Apple footage for the smoke on the top. Watch this video, it should clear things up…

Thanks for that, Appleologist. Now I REALLY hate Sony. This just seals the deal.
