I finally received permission to share the clip of the MacCast being mentioned on The Gadget Show in the UK. The Gadget Show is a show on Channel Five one of the terrestrial broadcast channels in the UK. The show deals with all kinds of gadget ans technology, but in this episode they did a nice segment on Podcasting. Durning the segment one of the shows hosts, Jon, gave the MacCast some very nice praise. Thanks to Jon and the rest of his crew for their support.

Tiki Bar TV VidCast

For those of you lucky enough to get a new iPod with video on Monday or for those just looking for fun iTunes video content, check out Tiki Bar TV. (Warning: This show is not “family safe”). I am really digging this cast. The format is kind of like a kids show, a la Pee Wee’s Playhouse, but has an adult subject. Mixed Drinks. Each episode Dr. Tiki, Lala and the great cast of others teach you how to create a new kind of mixed drink. Awesome. It’s both fun and educational. Check it out in iTunes. Enjoy.

Video iPods and new iMacs

Well looks like I was totally wrong. Despite what Steve says Apple announced the video iPod today along with a new version of iTunes to allow customers to purchase video content. Looks like initially the video content is limited to music videos and some popular ABC and Disney TV shows. I am really excited to see TV content available for purchase at only $1.99 per episode. This could be a huge benefit to us non PVR owners. The new iPods are smaller, but have a slightly larger 2.5″ screen and of course provide video out so you can connect to a TV for a better viewing experience. The new iPod Video is also available in black. Looks like Apple has done a good job here, but they will need to work hard on getting more video content for iTunes. I just hope that there may be a possible software update for those of us with older color and photo iPods.
I haven’t had a chance to really explore the mew iMac G5s, but it looks like the big updates are new Front Row media software and a remote for viewing all of your multimedia content (photos, video, music, podcasts, etc), a built in iSight camera with new PhotoBooth application, processor and video card upgrades, comes with a Mighty Mouse and Apple finally ditched the built-in 56K modem (although an external $49 USB modem is available as an option).
Another subtle change was pointed out by listener Charlie. Apple has moved the eMac to the education area of the site.
I am just back from my trip and trying to catch up. I have a meeting tonight, but will try to get a Podcast out soon. We have so much to talk about. Stay tuned.

Correction: I incorrectly identified the iPod encryption software from Paraihware as PodLock, it is actually called PodSecret.
I was just made aware that many people are having issues getting the MacCast from Libsyn. Listeners are reporting getting connection failures and timeouts. I was just told this seems to be a symptom of a larger issue. There is currently a battle raging between two tier 1 ISPs (see this cNet article for details) and is is resulting in large Internet “blackouts” for many sites and customers. The major group affected seems to be Earthink and Time Warner Roadrunner customers. If you are unable to get the MacCast your options are to wait it out or Libsyn has been attempting to work around the issue by updating information on their servers. If you would like them to try and route you around the issue you can send your IP address (if you are behind a router they need the IP from the router) to support@libsyn.com. Sorry for the inconvenience, but it is not in my control.

Well. It looks like Apple does have some announcement up its sleeve. There is a lot of speculation on the Web that it will be the video iPod. The announcement they sent out (see image) does seem to be a theatre curtian, so maybe. They also could finally announce those new PowerMacs or PowerBooks. Stay tuned.

This is so cool. I was just told by a listener that the MacCast was mentioned on the latest episode of The Gadget Show on Channel 5 in the UK. I was very excited and flattered to hear the news. Thanks to The Gadget Show and Channel 5 for even considering my show worth the mention, I am honored.
Since I obviously don’t get UK TV here in the States, I would love it if someone could send me a clip of episode.
UPDATE: Thanks to a listener I now have a copy of the segment and a DVD version is on the way. I have asked for permission to post the clip, so as soon as (and if) I get it I will post a link.
